: Has anyone tried giving blood to the Red Cross and been turned away? I found out I was exposed to mad cow just after I retired and went to donate blood during the time of 9/11. Well if thats the case I guess if I do anything bazar in the next few years I have a great excuse. I was infected with MAD COW while living on the Rock

But seriously, Yes, I cannot give blood nor can anyone else who was stationed in Germany from 1980 to 1990, as we were eating beef that came from the UK. Evidently, we are all at risk for having mad cow disease....I looked it up, since I figured we would all have it by now if we were going to get it. BUT it could lie dormant for 30-50 years before we know if we have it. AND there is no way of telling if we have it or not unless we develop symptoms....BUT if we have symptoms it is too late, and there is no cure for it anyway......Renee
